In this tour you discover all the highlights of Honduras: Mayan ruins, waterfalls, cloud forest and mountain lakes and streams with a
special emphasis on bird watching.
For best enjoyment, you should be in good physical condition and able to walk or hike at leisure
in moderate terrain for several hours without feeling discomfort.
Weather conditions vary. It is cool at high altitudes and can be wet any time of year.
Hotels used are some of the finest small hotels in the country. Expect good air
conditioned facilities with restaurant and bar.
Announcements
| Day 1 | Meet in San Pedro arriving flight, overland transfer to Copan. check-in hotel Marina Copan/ Evening at leisure. |
| Day 2 | An early start since we will go bird watching along the river of Copan till we reach the Hacienda San Lucas. Motor transfer back to Copan. After breakfast, breakfast we tour Copan's archeological site. In the evening we will visit the butterfly farm in Copan. Bonus: bird lecture by Central American expert Roberto Gallardo, (when available.) |
| Day 3 | After breakfast we depart for interior Honduras and mountain rimmed Lake Yojoa, stopping enroute at a Gourmet coffee plantation where we walk the fields and see the process in growing/roasting coffee. Night at hotel Finca Las Glorias, remainder of evening at leisure. |
| Day 4 | An early rise for birdwatching along the shores of the lake, breakfast at the hotel, and a mid-morning visit to Los Naranjos archeological site. (Great views of the lake and birding among the ruins.) Remainder of evening at leisure. |
| Day 5 | An early departure from the lake to Tela, enroute we will visit the Lancetilla Botanical Garden, one of Honduras best places to see exotic birds such as toucans, and motmots. We spend all morning in here and then transfer to hotel Villas Telamar |
| Day 6 | Today we will do a boat ride to Punta Sal Marine park. We'll enjoy boat riding, hiking a tropical rain forest, swimming/snorkeling tour while keeping a sharp eye peeled for ocean and aquatic bird life. After a tipico seafood lunch, we return by boat back to Tela, then drive to La Ceiba and the highly rated cloud forest Lodge at Pico Bonito. |
| Day 7 | Explore the well marked trails of the Pico Bonito forest
on your own. We recommend a hike all the way to the river in order to see a tree full of Oropendolas nest, you can return to the lodge at your convenience. |
| Day 8 | Transfer to La Ceiba airport at designated time. From here, you can easily add a stay in the Bay Islands or fly to San Pedro Sula for your outbound flight. |
