Moderately strenuous. Best for the adventure and cultural minded person 12 and over in good physical condition. Involves walking, long slow boat rides in possibly hot or inclement weather.

Food, accommodations, and facilities in the Rio Platano region (Mosquitia) are basic. Other accommodations are good with private bath and a good menu variety with an emphasis on local fare.

Transportation is by car, small aircraft, and motorized dugout pipante.


This 10 night itinerary boasts one of the richest experiences available in Honduras both on and off the tourist track. Features: Mayan ruins, hieroglyphs. wildlife, native cultures, white water rafting, birding, butterfly farm, backroads, mountain lakes, botanical garden, local crafts, museums.



 

Announcements

DAY 1 Meet in SAP'S airport and transfer to Lake Yojoa, check-in at hotel Agua Azul.
Day 2 Morning boat tour around the lake, return to the hotel, check-out and transfer to Copan, enroute we will visit the Phulapanzak falls and then departure to Copán, upon arrival to Copán check-in hotel Madrugada or similar.
Day 3 Full day at Copan visiting archeological park, sculpture museum and the little museum in town, return to hotel late in the evening.
Day 4 Morning departure from Copan to Tela, enroute we visit the Imapro Mahogany factory and the Lancetilla Botanical Garden, then check-in at hotel Cesar Mariscos.
Day 5 Today we enjoy a full day tour to Punta Sal Marine Park, we will do boating, hiking, snorkeling and enjoy an authentic Garifuna lunch, return to Tela, check-out and transfer to La Ceiba, check-in hotel Paris.
Day 6 Today we do the Cangrejal White water rafting trip, we jeep our way up the mountain and then we raft our way down the Cangrejal river, we will do a soft hike to the Pico Bonito park and also jump into the river, return in the afternoon to the hotel.
Day 7 Flight from La Ceiba to Palacios (50 min). Transfer in motorized dug-out canoe to Raista, a Miskito community - 2.5 hrs. Visit to local Butterfly Farm in afternoon.
Day 8 After breakfast we walk to La Nueva Jerusalem (1 hr), where our motorized canoe will take us to the Platano River and Las Marias village, where we stay overnight. (6 hrs.)
Day 9 After breakfast we travel by pipantes dug-out canoes) up the Platano River to visit the Walpaul-bansirpe petroglyphs.(4 hrs upriver and 1.5 hr. jungle hiking ).In the afternoon,we return to Las Marías (2 hrs.).
Day 10 After breakfast, we return to La Nueva Jerusalem by dug out motor boat from where we'll walk to Raistá for lunch (5 hrs.) and then continue by tuc tuc (motorized canoe) to the Garifuna village of Plaplaya (1hr.)In the afternoon, we'll have time for a swim in the Caribbean or a visit the village. In the evening at Plaplaya you will enjoy the colourful Garifuna dance show.
Day 11 After breakfast, we leave for Palacios (45 min.), where we take the plane to La Ceiba and connections.
   
Includes all transfers with bilingual guide on vehicle from DAY01-06, 06 night hotel accommodation in the main land portion, tour & entrance fees to sites mentioned on itinerary.
